What a splendid betting weekend. Friday it is the Kentucky Oaks, followed Saturday with the first leg of The Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, the Kentucky Derby. Saturday night sees the highly anticipated Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight. Vegas odds still have Floyd Mayweather a 1/2 favorite, with Pacman at 17/10.

Tonight features both NHL playoff action and NBA playoffs. The Atlanta Hawks attempt to wrap up their best-of-seven series at the Brooklyn Nets tonight, leading three games to two. The Hawks are four-point road favorites with a total at 200. Both the side and total are down a half-point from the world openers.

As is often the case, the betting public prefers the road favorite with 68 percent of Vegas sportsbook and offshore wagers on the Hawks. A modest 53 percent are on the over.

The Hawks are 63-24 straight up and 50-34 against the spread going over 44-42. Brooklyn is 40-47 straight up, 44-42 against the spread going under 48-38. The Hawks are 1-6 the last seven with the only cover by one-point, the most recent contest. During that span they are -6.79 points per game against the spread. The Nets are 5-1 the last six by 5.42 points per game (margin of cover).

Spread trends (all records against the spread): Atlanta is 16-4 on the road with a total of 200-209.5, 25-11 off three straight games as favorites, but 9-22 on the road in the first round of the playoffs, 27-13 on one day rest.

Brooklyn is 16-7 revenging double-digit loss, 7-1 off any loss, 16-5 with a winning percentage of .600 or better.

Over/under angles: Brooklyn under 30-15 off loss. Atlanta under 11-1 when trying to close out a playoff series.

Joe Duffy’s Picks has the spread winner, Kentucky Oaks top four finishers, and a historic MLB season continuing to win at
