American Pharoah is Belmont Stakes Favorite; NBA Conference Finals Odds Posted

Oddsmakers say the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing’s long drought will end. American Pharoah is the 4/5 favorite to win the 2015 Belmont Stakes and become the first Triple Crown victor since Affirmed in 1978. Frosted and Materiality are the most likely spoilers, both listed at 6/1.

Carpe Diem comes in as the fourth favorite at 10/1 with Keen Ice at 12/1. Bettors also have the prop of staking against American Pharaoh winning the Triple Crown at 20/21. However if the horse is scratched, so is the bet. Below, sports betting expert Joe Duffy explains why regression to the mean is in part why professional gamblers dominate MLB betting. Duffy is widely accepted as the top baseball betting expert in history.

In other sports handicapping news, matchups and odds are set for the NBA conference finals. Series and Game 1 prices are set for the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets.

In the Western Conference finals, Golden State is a whopping -800 to take the title with Houston getting back +525. Despite not having home court advantage in the best-of-seven series, LeBron James and the Cavaliers are -230 with the Hawks getting +195.

Game 1 of the Western Conference finals is Tuesday night at 9 ET. Golden State is laying -10 at home with a total of 219. Houston will have just one day off following their upset of the Los Angeles Clippers in seven games of the conference semi-finals.

A slim majority of 51 percent of bets at highly rated sportsbooks is on Golden State, though 52 percent of moneyline bets are calling for Houston to pull of the dramatic upset in the opener. A modest 57 percent expect the game to exceed the total.

The Eastern Conference tips off Wednesday night at 8:30 ET. Atlanta is (-1) with a total of 197. The juice on the side varies a bit, but the line has been steady. The total dropped a point. Cleveland is the side chosen by 71 percent of Vegas and offshore bettors so far, 73 percent like them on the moneyline, with 52 percent expecting the over, contrary to the line move.
