Free Sports Pick, Betting Preview of Virginia Tech vs. Tennessee

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports presents a free pick on the Virginia Tech vs. Tennessee football game from Joe Duffy’s Picks. Last week the Grandmaster went 3-0 with free picks and he is 23-10 with all football picks, including 12-2 in the regular season, most recently the Broncos outright in a game in which all the squares had Carolina and most sharps Denver.

The game is at 8 ET and the Volunteers are -11.5 with a total of 53.5. The public is evenly split was each side has gotten 50 percent of the bets, a surprise considering how much square bettors love to bet on big favorites. The game is televised nationally on ABC.

Who will cover? I am a big show me guy and Tennessee is one of those teams that for the last two years has won a lot more in the media and preseason publications such as Phil Steele’s much respected magazine. We are not impressed with what we’ve seen on the field the last two “breakout” years, albeit this year limited to a near upset at the hands of FCS foe Appalachian State.

The game at Bristol Motor Speedway, an equal distance between the two schools. Though still in Tennessee, the “neutral field advantage” we often exploit is negligible. Tech so-so to Liberty, but includes 10-yard TD drive by Liberty on one of Tech’s turnovers. Those mistakes are a bit more correctable than lack of production.

Yes, playing on the infield of a race track in front of the largest crowd in history adds some uncertainty. But with the burden of such high expectations there is more pressure on Tennessee, so more likely get heebie jeebies. Also uncertainly is a good thing when betting a large underdog.

The puppies should have success running as App State did very well at line of scrimmage according to every respected expert who watched the game film.

Teams that had to go to overtime as big favorites previous game are 18-40 ATS, which means fade Tennessee. Our free pick is Virginia Tech +11.5.

Joe Duffy’s Picks is 22-10 since our perfect middle got cancelled in the Hall-of-Fame game with all football picks, including 12-2 in the regular season. All records entering Friday night. are also 6-2 with all football Wise Guys, though that pales in comparison to all the other windfalls. Seven Saturday college football Wise Guys and four Majors are up at
